Informix Powers Project for Computerworld Smithsonian Award Finalist

University of California at Berkeley Space Science Laboratory's SETI@home Project Announced as Finalist for 2000 Science Award

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2000-- Informix® Corporation (NASDAQ: IFMX - news), the technology leader in software infrastructure for the i.Economy, announced today that the University of California at Berkeley, an Informix Software Grant Program recipient, will be honored by the Computerworld Smithsonian Program for innovative use of technology to process astronomical data in their search for extraterrestrial life. The U.C. Berkeley Space Science Lab's SETI@home project uses the Informix technology to track data from more than a million desktop computers, achieving a processing speed sixteen times that of the largest traditional supercomputer and representing the world's most extensive use of distributed computing.

The Computerworld Smithsonian Chairmen's Committee, comprised of chairmen and CEOs, nominate innovative users of information technology for the Computerworld Smithsonian Award and for inclusion in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History Permanent Research Collection.
